Team/division description: 

Material Engineering division (MED) widely contributes to Toyota development activities from fundamental research to vehicle development projects. Material Engineering 2 department in MED is responsible for advanced material research for circular economy, carbon neutrality, battery electric vehicle, hydrogen society and new clean mobility.  We are dedicated to creating key materials and manufacturing processes to contribute to the final application performance in collaboration with many global stakeholders (EU researchers in universities and institutes, EU suppliers, EU companies, Toyota group companies in the world).

Your responsibilities: 

You will be joining a team which develops the materials and manufacturing processes for the next generation electrified powertrains, which includes Fuel Cell, Hybrid and Battery Electric technology. Your main focus will be on Research and Development related to the Hydrogen Tank. You will be responsible for:

Identification of new technologies and trends for example through conference visits, supplier discussions and networking events Conduct and support research projects by identifying suitable technologies, performing material characterization and evaluation, and support their implementation towards the final application Project management with multiple collaborators (EU companies, institutes and universities)  Call identification, proposal preparation and management of public funded project (EU and national funding) Experimental characterization and performance testing in TME or external test laboratories Represent Toyota in standardization committees (related to Hydrogen quality)

This role contributes to global product research and development through close collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation R&D, allowing for independent project management and ownership.

Profiel

Your profile

  • You are fluent in English (TME business language) 
  • You have a master/PhD degree in materials engineering or equivalent specialization by experience
  • You have several years of professional experience with composites / fiber reinforced plastics
  • You have excellent knowledge of thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers and their processing
  • You have experience in material characterization, analysis and testing 
  • You have experience in structural FEA analysis (especially composites), modelling and machine learning
  • You have strong analytical skills, perseverance, and the ability to work as part of a team. We are looking for curiosity, creativity and the will to explore innovative ideas and concepts. You like challenges, you are able to cope with project schedules and you can summarize results in a concise way.
  • You have an open-minded personality and are a flexible team player 
  • You are owner of a driving license
  • You are open to business travel (~10% of your time)

Preferred but not essential:

  • Professional experience with Type IV hydrogen tanks and filament winding process
  • Professional experience in the automotive sector is an asset
  • Knowledge about Hydrogen quality for use in fuel cells
